Lee’s Summit School District

•Money magazine named Lee’s Summit R-7 schools as seventh best in the nation in its annual “Best Places to Live” issue focusing on the nation’s top 100 small cities

•R-7 was among the top two school districts on Missouri’s “top 10″ spring 2009 schools lists. The state lists rank schools based on student scores on the spring 2008 Missouri academic achievement tests.

•The school district is a winner of Missouri’s Distinction in Performance Award, the state’s highest recognition for academic achievement. During December 2008, the R-7 School District was recognized for being among a handful of districts in the state to earn a perfect score on criteria for the Distinction In Performance Award each year for the last nine years.

•The R-7 Nutrition Services Department was named District of the Year in School Nutrition in July 2009 by the School Nutrition Association. The award included $25,000 to further improve the nutrition program.

•R-7 officials reported that approximately 81 percent of the 2009 graduates have stated they are attending college, based on 2008-09 seniors’ response to a fall 2009 survey.

•The class of 2009 was offered $20.5 million in college scholarships for the next four years.

•The R-7 School District won the national Magna Award for its 21st Century Learning program in spring 2009.

•Four seniors were named National Merit Scholarship finalists in February 2010.

•All three R-7 School District high schools offer the International Baccalaureate program, a rigorous curriculum offering students the opportunity to compete with high-achieving students worldwide. Only nine high schools in Missouri offer this program.

•The A+ program is offered at all three high schools. Qualifying students enrolled in this state-funded program are eligible for reimbursements at Missouri community colleges, vocational/technical institutions, and some four-year colleges.

•Lee’s Summit R-7 students consistently score above state and national norms on all tests, including the Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) Tests and ACT college-entrance test. On the ACT 2009 college entrance test, for example, the R-7 School District high schools’ composite score was 23.3, compared to 21.6 for the Missouri average and 21.1 for the national average.

2010 Missouri Arts Award for “Creative Community”

The prestigious honor was given by the Missouri Arts Council, a division of the Missouri Department of Economic Development. Missouri Arts Awards honor individuals and organizations that have made profound and lasting contributions to the cultural and artistic climate of the state. Read more.

Capstone Award for Infrastructure

As a result of the I-470 and 350/50 Highway Interchange project, two half-diamond interchanges were constructed, Pryor Road and Blue Parkway, which opened up approximately 150 acres of commercial land for new development and improved access to two regional shopping centers with 1.2 million square feet of retail space.  Read more.

Fastest growing Cities in America

According to BusinessWeek magazine, Lees Summit made the list because “both businesses and residents have come to Lee’s Summit for its exceptional quality of life. The town has miles of trails for recreational use and dozens of parks.” Lee’s Summit is one of the fastest growing cities in the state of Missouri and has a population of more than 93,000 residents. Barbara Potts Award

The Lee’s Summit Police Department was recognized with the “Barbara Potts Award* from Hope House, along with Raytown.  Both the Lee’s Summit and Raytown Police departments formed domestic violence units with one detective in 1997. Now, over a decade later, Lee’s Summit has expanded to two detectives who continue to operate and work collaboratively with Hope House. Read more.

Business Week names Lee’s Summit 2008’s Best Place in Missouri to Raise Kids; school performance, affordability and safety were key factors.
The City of Lee’s Summit wins Best Downtown Public Improvement Project for our downtown streetscape improvements.  Many other achievements were also award such as Lee’s Summit Main Street and Downtown Lee’s Summit Main Street.

Fleet Masters Award

City of Lee’s Summit Fleet Division was awarded the 2006 Fleet Masters Award.  This award was sponsored by the Association of Equipment Management Professionals (AEMP) which recognizes top private and public fleets for their “innovative practices.  Read more.
